Music Video Conventions 5/10/11

In todays lesson we had to look at some of the typical conventions that our chosen music genre has in order to make our own music video. Our chosen genre is dance pop, urban pop.

Camera
close up of the singers in the band
Main close ups are of the leaders of the band the main singer
long shots of the band as a whole group

Mise en Scene
in every video there is a narrative
the girls aloud music video was on a beach or desert island loads of sand, trees, thunder
pussycat dolls video were going on tour loads of fans tour bus, they also had the band so they had a lot of equipment such as drums, guitar, microphones
the saturdays video was also set on a beach and had a lot of sand, water.
the girls are also dressed down and wearing very little which is a way to sexualise them in order for them to sell records.

Editing
there are many quick shots flicking between the girls so they get an even amount of screen time however in the pussycat dolls nicole gets more screen time as she is the main singer.
lots of slow motion shots.
